Hi there! My name is Hannah, the Founder of Hexcode Beauty. My mission is to help BIPOC women (and men who are makeup enthusiasts!) find correct and flattering makeup products that make them feel beautiful. While my advice can be useful for anyone, this site is directed to helping those with medium/tan skin or darker.
I actually started my blogging journey in 2014 under Blogspot. I won’t share the URL because it’s super cringy (and I’m going to make sure it’s private for good measure). While I did have a lot of fun with posting makeup reviews, wedding planning, life with lupus, and other tidbits of my life, I felt like I could get more serious about blogging. So I switched over to WordPress and bought a domain, wrote more beauty reviews until I switched over to the travel niche in 2019, which is now Hannah on Horizon. That is where I am most active.
I will say that my Blogspot era from 2014—2017 was a pivotal time for me, and I don’t regret it. I have learned so much all these years and I continue to learn each day.
I spent thousands of dollars on raved-about makeup products from the early-mid 2010s that just straight-up looked terrible on me. From ashy nude lipsticks to barely-there bronzers; you named it, I probably tried it. I don’t want you to make the same mistake; just because an influencer raves about something, it doesn’t mean you need to run out and buy it. I have drawers full of makeup in my arsenal, and I will always give you 100% honest reviews. Whether I bought it myself or if a brand sent it to me.
I also will share tips on how to save money on makeup and other beauty products, so you don’t make the same mistakes I have made spending your hard-earned money on products that end up disappointing you. Because we’re all feeling the pinch from inflation. I will share a mix of high-end and drugstore products and will help you get a deal for a high-end beauty product or at least find a dupe.
In my spare time, I love to travel (obviously), try different restaurants, and spend my time at home with my husband and our two dogs. We live in Sacramento, CA.
Why the name Hexcode Beauty?
I am a graphic designer in my day job, so I work with hex codes a lot. To explain it as simply as possible, a hex code is a 6-digit code defining a specific color. You then use that color for designing and branding things like the fonts for websites, headers, flyers, etc.
I believe everyone has a unique skin tone and skin type, almost like a hex code. And my hope with this site is to empower you and help you find the right products that make you feel good, no matter who you are.
